The Chelsea home shirt is the most popular replica shirt with fans. In recent years, more and more fans have incorporated football shirts in to their fashion choices. The quality, fit and appearance of the Chelsea shirts have improved to the degree that people are happy to wear them as leisure shirts the same as they would polo and t-shirts.
Of course, if you are going to see Chelsea at Stamford Bridge then you will need a Chelsea shirt to show your support and identify yourself as a Blue’s fan. The shirts are very popular with kids who often favour it over all their other shirts. More and more female fans are choosing replica shirts and Adidas now manufacture a special Women’s shirt. Current season shirts are available in sizes for men up to 8XL, women and kids.
There are complete kits made up of shirt, shorts and socks for infants and babies. Most retailers give you the option to personalise your shirt by adding a name and number to the back of the shirt. This can be your own name or that of your Chelsea hero. There are usually options to add arm badges too. This is at an additional cost, although some retailers have regular free shirt printing offers. Previous season shirts are available at a heavily discounted price, although sizes may be limited. For even older shirts then you may need to look for retro shirts.
Chelsea play the majority of games in their home shirt, even when playing away and in Europe. The main colour has always been blue, since their establishment in 1915. Up until the early 1960s, the home kits remained the same with a collar design and plain blue shirt with white shorts. A crest was then added to the shirt with the main feature being a proud lion.
Over the years, the club badge has changed in form including simple CFC lettering, CFC with the lion and a return to the original inception (as currently worn today). Whilst the main colour associated with Chelsea is blue, red has featured on the shirts and badges in some form or another since 1960. The red represents the club's association with the Chelsea war pensioners, whose main uniform is red in colour.
The club's kits have been supplied by a number of clothing manufacturers over the years, with Umbro holding this responsibility for many years. Adidas currently supply the team shirts and replica kits. In the past, other suppliers have included Le Coq Sportif. Since the early 1980s, a number of companies have been featured on the Chelsea home shirt as a club sponsor including Commodore, Fly Emirates and Autoglass.
The current kit sponsor is Samsung who have enjoyed what is now a five-season partnership. In the early days new kit designs were rarely released. Indeed, Chelsea played in the same kit design from 1915 to 1950. Today however, mainly for commercial reasons, new home shirts and kits are released every season.
The new kits are typically released towards the end of the season in May and are played in the last few games of that season. Current kit supplier, Adidas caters for all fans including men, women, children, infants and babies. They also feature some extra large sizes all the way up to 8XL.
